UserTesting Picks Up $3M To Bring Usability Testing To Mobile Apps And Abroad

Screen Shot 2012-09-06 at 7.40.32 AMIt's a terribly common situation: after hundreds of hours of thinking through and building a product, a startup finds that its users stumble through a sign-up flow or in finding a feature. That's in part why usability testing is a no brainer. In fact, there's a bit of a cottage industry around this. Up until now, Usertesting.com had been a bootstrapped business. It emerged over the past five years to attract between 11 and 12,000 customers who use it to record short videos of users testing their products and mobile apps. That roster includes clientele like Home Depot, Sears, Zappos and Dell. Former OpenTable CEO and Andreessen Horowitz general partner Jeff Jordan even raved about the service in a recent post, saying it helped them identify where users were dropping off in finalizing restaurant reservations. So it's little surprise that the company is looking to scale up its business with some additional funding. The company's taking $3 million in financing from San Francisco-based private equity firm Kern Whelan.

Is Stafford-to-Johnson the Best QB-WR Duo in the NFL?

I could make this the shortest article in Bleacher Report history and simply say ?duh.? But that wouldn?t be nearly as much fun now would it?

Nevertheless, the answer is a resounding and unabashed yes.

It might seem unfair to peg two relatively young NFL stars as the most dynamic duo since Batman and Robin. Especially when you consider the fact that they?ve technically played just one full season of football together.

But that?s it. That?s the thing that makes them so superhuman. So special. In just one season of football, Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford looked about as veteran as you can get.

Together, the two combined for 1,681 yards on 96 catches, and 16 touchdowns. The only other tandem to out-catch them was Tom Brady and Wes Welker, who finished 2011 with 122 catches, but fell short of Stafford's and Johnson?s numbers in the other two categories.

There are other great duos in the NFL, but none quite as dynamic, quite as exciting, or quite as productive as Johnson and Stafford.

When you think of the other elite QBs in the league, not one of them has a No. 1 receiver with as much physical ability as Johnson.

Brady has Welker, Drew Brees has Marques Colston and Aaron Rodgers has Jordy Nelson and Greg Jennings. None of those guys is on the same level as Johnson. You can argue that Brady and Welker are close, but when it comes to physicality, pure size and strength, the battle between him and Johnson isn?t even close.

And when you look at the other top receivers in the league, none of them has a Stafford-like arm in the pocket. Not Roddy White with Matt Ryan, not Andre Johnson with Matt Schaub, and certainly not Larry Fitzgerald with John Skelton.

So, let's talk about the Johnson-to-Stafford duo a little bit.

Well we already know Johnson's the best wide receiver in the game. I don?t know many people (Cris Carter?s no longer an exception) who would argue that fact.

And as far as Stafford is concerned? He?s quickly climbing the ranks of the NFL's elite.

His potential is irreproachable. Sure he?s struggled to stay healthy in the past, but you simply can?t ignore the fact that in his first full season as an NFL quarterback, he threw for more than 5,000 yards, joining the likes of Drew Brees, Tom Brady and Dan Marino.

You can certainly argue that Johnson makes Stafford look good. But you can also argue that Johnson?s career year happening during Stafford?s first full healthy season isn?t a fluke. They make each other look good, they compliment each other equally, and and it?s thanks in large part to the trust the two obviously share.

How else can you explain Stafford throwing up passes 40 yards downfield while Johnson?s in triple coverage? You can't. Stafford is simply confident that Johnson will be the guy to come down with the ball every time. They have an unspoken communication on the field. And it works. Well. Really well.

It also helps that Stafford and Johnson appear to have been cut from the same piece of cloth. They both have obvious physical prowess. Johnson is 6?5" and 236 pounds. For lack of a better word, he?s a beast.

Stafford is no different. While he might not be the same physical specimen that Johnson is, his arm is deadly accurate and he throws a football harder than some pitchers I?ve seen.?

But that?s the easy part. The God-given talent, the work-your-butt-off-everyday to improve part. The hard part is what most other athletes lack, but what Johnson and Stafford both have: trust in each other, confidence in their abilities, leadership among teammates and maybe most importantly, common sense intelligence on the field.

They are smart. They are aware. And they know their positions inside and out.

When you marry physical talent with intelligence and mental stability, it?s pretty much impossible to stop.

And the best news is this: They are just scratching the surface.

The future of this QB-WR combo is up to them. If they can stay healthy, there?s little doubt in anyone?s minds that they will eventually be named among other all-time great duos. The Peyton Manning-Marvin Harrison or Joe Montana/Steve Young-Jerry Rice's of the world.

They may not be there just yet. But I think we can all agree that in the NFL today, Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are certainly the highest standard.

Video: Setting the state for Obama

>> speech by president obama and vice president biden, among those who will be setting the stage, congresswoman tammy baldwin , who's now running for one of the most important senate seats in this country, the crucial swing state of wisconsin . if she wins, she would become the first openly gay u.s. senator in history. also with us, philadelphia mayor michael nutter . they join us both from charlotte. thank you so much for your time. congresswoman, i'll start with you. we just heard the report that the romney campaign has decided not to advertise in wisconsin . we know part of the challenges you face, in addition to facing tommy thompson , is you have paul ryan as well and his history in that state. what do you make of the decision by the romney campaign not to put a lot of money in wisconsin , even though it's an important state?

>> well, i know that democrats are putting a lot of resources into our state, and we were delighted with a visit from the first lady a week ago in milwaukee. the vice president visited green bay this past sunday. i got to join him. so on the democratic side, we are doubling down on this presidential race and working very, very hard not only on my u.s. senate race but on electing fair-minded, progressive democrats up and down the ticket.

>> how did it feel to see, for example, the party platform ? and even the first lady talk about it's not relevant who you love. you would be the first openly gay member of the senate. dr. jill biden was just at an lgbt community meeting just this afternoon. how does that feel for you knowing you're in this political battle, but you're also in a social battle every day for acceptance from some within this country?

>> well, i am one who truly believes that our legislative bodies are strongest when they look like america and reflect america . and you have to admit that if you're not in the room, it's a conversation about you. if you're in the room, it's a conversation with you. that changes everything. that said, wisconsin voters going to the polls on november 6th are thinking about jobs and the economy. they are hard workers. they play by the rules, and they want to get ahead. fairness is their guide post. that is what i've been about. i've been fighting for hard working middle class families throughout my political career. that's what's going to matter most to wisconsin voters on november 6th .

>> and mayor, let me bring you in. i'm a texan. i tell people i have my heart in texas but my soul when i lived in philadelphia for four years. what will you bring to the speech tonight? it's been incredible as douglas brinkley pointed out. the first lady's speech to representative cleaver, and now here you are. what's the tone or mess an you want to get across today?

>> well, first and foremost, the conversation that the first lady michelle obama had with america about her values and the president's values and really about family values was one of the most incredible conversations i've heard in a long, long period of time. president bill clinton just really, beyond anything we've heard in recent times from the president. then president obama later on tonight. my main goal is to talk about the president's record, president obama , the many things he's still, in my opinion, not received proper credit for and that the public still needs to know while talking about, again, the real record or lack thereof of mitt romney and the things that he's talked about but has no plans to do anything about. so that's my goal for this evening. it's a great honor to be a part of this. then sit back and relax and listen to our president, who we're going to work hard to get re-elected.

>> you mentioned the credit you believe the president receives. in some of the states that are recovering that have a lower unemployment rate than the national average, particularly states with republican governors, the republican party has attempted to pull credit saying it's because of this republican governor or mayor that this particular town or state recovered, not by moves made by the president. what do you say to that notion?

>> i say it's really sad that folks are still focused so much on their political point scoring as opposed to representing the people. our jobs, regardless of political party , are to make sure that americans get back to work, that we invest in our cities, that we fix our bridges and roads and provide support for our schools rather than this fighting that leads to gridlock and grand standing. so they'll say whatever they say. we had a full week-long infomercial with bad information and sometimes just outright lies. our convention is about openness. our convention is about people. it's about policy. it's about facts and about getting stuff done in order to put americans back to work and move this country forward.

>> mayor michael nutter , thank you so much. congresswoman tammy baldwin . good luck with your speeches tonight. we'll be watching you both. thank you.

New Report: Tom Cruise's kids were turned against Nicole by Church of Scientology

Nicole Kidman needs to grow a pair and speak out. If her PR guys are telling her to keep quiet they are wrong. The public will be way more sympathetic if she just tells her story.

I agree. I was thinking the same thing. She's kept quiet long enough to be viewed as calm, measured, without malice and not vindictive.

Now, it's time to take the gloves off. She probably has an NDA too though, right?

Bing It On: Microsoft Claims 2:1 Users Prefer Bing?s Search Results Over Google?s In Blind Test

bing_it_onBing has a bit of an image problem and despite its best efforts, Microsoft claims, many people still have the perception that Google is simply "better." To combat this, the company is launching its Bing It On challenge today. The challenge is essentially a Pepsi Challenge for search results. Microsoft says that in these blind tests, "people preferred Bing web search results nearly 2:1 over Google in blind comparison tests." It's worth noting that Microsoft excludes ads and features like Bing's Snapshot and Social Search panes and Google's Instant Previews and Knowledge Graph boxes from this comparison.

Jones' HR in 9th caps big rally, Braves beat Phils

ATLANTA (AP) ? Chipper Jones rounded third base, took one look at his grinning teammates surrounding home plate and flung his batting helmet into the air before jumping into the welcoming party.

The moment Jones said he'll savor in retirement came after a dramatic homer that can help his chances of one more postseason.

Jones hit a three-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon with two outs in the ninth inning, capping a five-run rally that sent the Atlanta Braves over the Philadelphia Phillies 8-7 on Sunday.

The switch-hitting Jones was swinging as a left-handed hitter when he saw three straight fastballs from Papelbon. Jones pulled the third pitch deep into the right-field seats.

Then came the celebration every player cherishes ? none more than the 40-year-old Jones, who is retiring after the season.

"In that mob scene at the plate, you kind of get lost in it, time kind of stands still," Jones said. "You're not really thinking about any of that other stuff. You're just thrilled that you won a game.

"Nothing beats that. That's as good as it gets."

Jones has two game-ending homers this season, both against the Phillies. On May 2 in Atlanta, his 11th-inning, two-run shot gave the Braves a 15-13 win.

This win was more important, because the Braves appeared bound for their fourth straight loss. There was growing talk the team could stage of repeat of its collapse in September of 2011 when it blew a wild-card lead. The 2011 collapse ended with three straight home losses to the Phillies.

Talk of another September failure would have grown if the Braves had been swept. Instead, they boosted their status as the NL wild-card leader.

"This is something I think we need right here," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "This is something to get the team going again and get the juices flowing again.

"He came through again. ... It's unbelievable."

The Phillies led 7-1 after three innings and carried a four-run advantage into the ninth.

The Braves rallied against Jeremy Horst and Papelbon (3-6).

Reed Johnson singled off Horst with one out for his third hit and Paul Janish walked. Papelbon struck out pinch hitter Lyle Overbay before walking Michael Bourn to load the bases.

Martin Prado's grounder skipped past third baseman Kevin Frandsen for a two-run double, setting the stage for Jones' 14th home run.

The blown save was the fourth in 35 chances for Papelbon, who said he didn't regret throwing three straight fastballs.

"I threw the pitch I wanted," Papelbon said. "I'm the pitcher. I throw the pitch I want."

The Phillies would have climbed to within four games of .500 and within seven games of the wild-card leaders with a win. Instead, they could only stare as Jones circled the bases.

"It was sitting right there for us," said Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. "We couldn't finish it off."

"It was set up perfect for us. We didn't get it done. ... We won the series but so what? We had a chance to sweep. We need to win every game we can. "

Papelbon refused to overstate the impact of one loss.

"I wouldn't say it's a crushing loss," Papelbon said. "We've had a lot of losses this year. We've had a lot of chances to sweep teams."

Peter Moylan (1-0) got one out for his first win in his comeback from a torn right labrum and rotator cuff. He was added to the roster on Saturday.

Eric Kratz hit a three-run double and Ryan Howard drove in two runs with a double as the Phillies took a 5-0 lead against Paul Maholm.

Pitcher Cole Hamels added a two-run double in the third as the Phillies made it 7-1. Hamels gave up three runs on six hits and two walks in six innings.

Maholm left without recording an out in the third inning for his shortest start of the season. He gave up seven runs on six hits and three walks.

The Phillies hit six doubles, including three in the big first inning.

Johnson drove in three runs for Atlanta. He had an RBI double in the second and a two-run single in the sixth.

Bourn made a leaping catch at the center-field wall on a drive by Chase Utley to open the sixth.

NOTES: The Phillies recalled RHP Justin De Fratus and LHP Jake Diekman from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. ... Braves SS Andrelton Simmons, who has been on the disabled list since July 13 with a broken right little finger, will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Mississippi on Monday. Gonzalez said Simmons could come off the DL as soon as next weekend. ... RHP Kris Medlen will start as the Braves remain home to open a four-game series against RHP Tyler Chatwood and Colorado on Monday. Phillies RHP Tyler Cloyd will face Johnny Cueto and the Reds in Cincinnati on Monday.

Two male and three female juvenile?whales?are being treated Monday at Florida Atlantic University's Harbor Branch Institute.

Experts at FAU say the?whales?are showing signs of stress from the stranding Saturday, but the marine mammals are swimming on their own.

The rest of their pod died or had to be euthanized. It was unclear why the?whales?became stranded at Avalon State Park in St. Lucie County.

The experts hope to eventually continue the?whales' rehabilitation at SeaWorld Orlando.
