Lonely and Adrift | Ask the Therapist

I?m feeling very lonely, I don?t have any friends. When I do get friends, if they make one mistake I get rid of them and always find faults. My past 2 relationships I messed up, the 1st one was for 3 years, and during that time I was living with my dad,he lost his job for over a year and we had no money and became very reliant on him he broke up with me when I needed him most. After we broke up I met someone else, whom I love a lot but because I still dwelled on my old relationship we broke up too.my parents split up when I was 16,I?m the youngest,I have 2 older brothers. My mum has never been the same, and she drinks a lot and is very lonely.I can?t forgive myself for mistakes I?ve made, all my family live abroad in different countries except my mum,I live alone.I moved around a lot since I was 9..and never kept friends, and now I find myself all alone.I find it hard to tell my family.

A. I am not certain of your exact question so I can only provide general advice. The problem area that you identified involves relationships. You believe that you are to blame for the demise of your relationships. That may or may not be true.

The fact that when a friend ?makes a mistake, you get rid of them? would be problematic in virtually any relationship, romantic or otherwise. There are some mistakes that are unforgivable and would likely warrant the ending of a relationship. For instance, a new friend physically harming you would understandably warrant the ending of a relationship.

Without knowing what mistakes your friends made, it?s difficult to determine if you were correct to end the friendship. Everyone makes mistakes. Many mistakes are forgivable but there are exceptions.

Generally speaking, if you continue to end relationships after a friend makes a minor mistake, then you will be unable to establish long-term relationships. This is a problem because it is human nature to desire relationships. In the absence of meaningful relationships, you will likely be unhappy.

My recommendation is to meet with a therapist who could thoroughly evaluate your behavior in relationships. A therapist can also objectively assess how and if you are contributing to your relationship problems. The positive aspect of therapy is that you can be retrained to think differently and to act differently toward others. In other words, therapy affords you the opportunity to learn new skills and behaviors that will improve the quality of your relationships and thus your life.

Finally, you stated that you ?can?t forgive yourself for the mistakes? you have made. As mentioned above, everyone make mistakes. Many of the mistakes people make stem from essentially not knowing alternative and more appropriate ways to behave. Acknowledge your mistakes, determine what led to your mistakes and make a concerted effort not to repeat them. That would be a much healthier, action-oriented approach to problem-solving than your current approach, which involves self-blame. A therapist could assist you in developing these problem solving skills. I hope that you will consider therapy. Please take care.

Celebrating The Art Of Grilling With Italian Sausages
By Siddhesh Ramesh Jadhav

For most Americans, grilling evokes a series of relaxing images in the mind. Picture this ? a group of friends in the backyard, waiting impatiently while the barbecue is sizzling away and the air is filled with appetizing aromas of food. Their wait is worthwhile because very soon, they will dig in happily into some delicious grilled meat!

Nothing symbolizes the spirit of America more than firing up the grill with family and friends on the Fourth of July. Grilling represents a great American cooking tradition that has taken years to evolve ? from the ancient meat-on-a-stick over raw fire to the culinary delights cooked with modern grills.

When it comes to cooking their favorite meat, Americans prefer grilling to other forms of cooking. Grilled meat is juicier and acquires an irresistible taste and aroma that cannot be substituted with any other. Grilled food is also healthier since its fat content is considerably lower. As of 2011, 82% of American households own a grill or smoker and nearly 40% grill all year-round.

Burgers, steak, hot dogs, chicken and pork chops are the most popular foods cooked on a grill. Grilled Italian Sausage recipes are also a favorite at cookouts. There are countless mouthwatering dishes that can be prepared with Italian Sausages. Surprise your friends and family by tossing some Italian sausages on the grill. Let the aroma of these sausages provide a beautiful setting for your evening.

Grilled Italian sausage recipes are abundant and your cooking abilities will be rewarded with any recipe that includes Italian sausages:

? With your choice of bread or bun along with relishes and condiments

? As the main course with side dishes

? Combining it with pasta or vegetables

? Or simply grill and have them on their own!

Things to keep in mind when grilling sausages

Fire the grill, toss on a couple of sausages and cook till they look right. Simple, right? There?s actually more to it. It is important that you not just grill right, but also retain the flavor and avoid total drying of the casing. Three simple rules that should be remembered for every grilling are:

  • Believe in slow and gradual heating: Sausages tend to shrivel up as they are grilled. It is important that you do not immediately expose sausages to high heat, since the outer casing will crack open immediately, releasing meat and fat onto your fire-called ?spitting?-and this will cause it to flare up. This chars the sausage and leaves a sooty deposit all over your sausage.
  • Say NO to forks: Instead of a fork use tongs or a spatula to turn food. Piercing sausages with a fork releases fat and juices onto the hot coals, causing flare-ups.
  • Use only white/grey charcoal: Grill only over grey-white coals after flames have died down and not over black coal. Gas grills should be set on the lowest or medium setting depending on your requirement.

We recommend a few delicious recipes, like- Italian Sausage Sandwiches, Sausage Skewers and Premio?s Bacon Wrapped BBQ?ED Sausage with Sauerkraut.

Learn How to Deal with Anxiety - Jack Herrick s Fitness Endeavor

Have you every been so nervous or anxious about something that it made your whole body freeze up? Maybe you didn?t freeze up, but you started sweating, or you were unable to speak you thoughts clearly. These are all things that can happen to anyone at anytime when anxiety takes over their body. There are many ways that people can learn that will teach them how to deal with anxiety. Feelings of anxiety cannot be clearly explained, or always clearly understood by other people. People on the outside looking in might think of your anxiety as irrational or unnecessary, but it is not that simple.

Instead of disregarding anxiety as something that shouldn?t happen, it is better to learn how to deal with it head on. One of the best ways to combat anxiety is to relax. This sounds very simple, but vegging out in front of a television or having a few beverages is not true relaxation. Those activities put the body into a false state of relaxation. True relaxation comes from learning deep breathing techniques, or doing something like yoga. A simple breathing exercise when you feel anxiety coming on is to close your eyes and take ten deep breaths. You should inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth. After the ten breaths, refocus your energy and keep moving forward through your day.

Another great tip on how to deal with anxiety is to get plenty of sleep, plenty of exercise and the proper nutrition. When our bodies are properly nourished, and we are getting enough sleep, we can focus much more clearly. We can also deal with anxious feelings in a much more positive and productive way.

A final tip on how to deal with anxiety is to connect with others that experience the same feelings that you do. Having the reassurance that someone else is going through the same things that you are can bring great relief to the mind and body. We all need to feel that we belong, and connecting with other people that share issues with anxiety can be very healthy. Remember that anxiety can be dealt with in a positive and productive manner to prevent it from running your life.

DPW To Collect Trash/Recycling Starting at 6 AM, Thurs/Fri., Aug. 2 & 3 Due To High Temperatures

The DC Department of Public Works announced today that its residential trash and recycling crews will begin their collections an hour earlier, at 6 am, Thursday and Friday, August 2 and 3, due to predicted 90? and above temperatures and the effect of the 90? plus heat index. Residents may put their trash and recyclables out for pick-up starting at 6:30 pm on the day before their collections to make sure these materials are collected. Trash and recycling containers should be removed from public space by 8 pm on the collection day.

Throughout the summer, when the temperature and heat index are predicted to be 90? or higher or the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments announces unhealthy air quality (Code Orange or Code Red days), DPW collection crews will begin their work at 6 am to avoid health or environmental issues.

(AP) ? President Barack Obama celebrated his 51st birthday Saturday with a round of golf and plans for a quiet weekend at Camp David, taking a break from campaigning three months before Election Day.

Obama, wearing a white golf shirt, khaki pants and sunglasses, boarded Marine One at Andrews Air Force Base after about six hours on the golf course en route to Camp David. He was joined by a small group of friends and aides that included White House chef Sam Kass, a frequent golf partner.

He returns to campaign mode soon enough, with fundraisers in Connecticut on Monday and campaign rallies in Colorado on Wednesday and Thursday.

Next weekend, Obama will hold several birthday-themed fundraisers in Chicago, including one at his family's South Side home. Obama's campaign used the event to drum up small-dollar donations before the end of the July fundraising deadline, offering two lucky winners the chance to attend the fundraiser at Obama's red brick home.

In an email to supporters, Obama warned that his birthday "could be the last one I celebrate as president of the United States, but that's not up to me ? it's up to you." Obama's team has warned that he could be outspent by Republicans and GOP candidate Mitt Romney.

Obama got some early birthday wishes on Thursday during a rally in Florida, when supporters serenaded him with "Happy Birthday." The president joked that his birthday wishes "probably would have to do with electoral votes. Winning Florida wouldn't be a bad birthday present."

Republicans offered tongue-in-cheek birthday greetings. The Republican National Committee delivered a birthday cake to their counterparts at the Democratic National Committee on Friday featuring a picture of a smiling Obama next to the words, "You didn't bake this."

The inscription was a reference to a line from an Obama speech last month in which he said, "If you've got a business, you didn't build that." Romney has seized upon the line to question Obama's commitment to small business while Obama and Democrats have said the quote was taken out of context.

DNC officials promptly sent the cake back to RNC headquarters, along with a copy of a recent report by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center that found that Romney's tax proposal would give millionaires a broad tax cut at the expense of tax breaks enjoyed by many middle-class families. Romney's team has disputed the study, saying his tax plan would benefit all Americans.

In short, just a typical presidential birthday in an election year.
